A blog is a regularly updated website where content is frequently published. Its purpose is to attract readers and generate money online.

For instance, the platform in which you are here reading is known as my blog.

1. Select a blog name

So, you know what a blog is. Selecting your blog name should not be a problem.

Make sure the name of your blog should represent either your own name, general topics you want to be writing about, your business name, or even a clever combination of words.

Your blog’s niche is a specific topic you will write about on your blog.

Most people wanting to learn how to start a blog do not know what niche is all about and that is the reason why I give you examples of blog niches that will help you to start your blog.

When you incorporate a word or two that clearly shows what your content is about within the name of your blog, it will be very useful for your blog readers.

3. You need a domain name

When you start your blog, you will need to choose a domain name with a hosting company like Bluehost, Dreamhost, or Namecheap.

Check if your blog name is available and then buy. You will see the buying processes as you visit any of the hosting companies I’ve just said.

Yours can be (, (, or anything you choose. But ensure you search for your name availability status and then buy.

If your preferred domain name isn’t available, don’t get it hung up at this stage, just select the option provided to choose the name later.

After getting everything else set up, you can now have enough time to re-think.

Please, make sure your domain name is pronounceable, easy to type, keep it short, avoid number and hyphen, and don’t use other company’s brand names or traded marked slogans.

4. Get your blog online (web hosting)

After following the above steps, it is time to get your blog online. This is what a web hosting company will do for you.

Here, you will have to select your blogging platform and web hosting plan you will need and use to get your blog online.

Therefore, Web hosting is a service that allows the blog to be accessed through the internet by other users.

And you know what, without domain and web hosting, your blog won’t be seen online talkless of getting any traffic.

The two can’t be separated.

5. Select a blogging platform

When you have gotten your web hosting, you can choose a blogging platform and the platform I am using is WordPress.

It is a free publishing platform that is been used since 2003 and it powers most of all blogs on the internet.

6. Design your blog using a free WordPress theme

When you want to choose a WordPress theme for your blog as a beginner, don’t buy a paid WordPress theme onset.

Wait till the time you have some traffic that can justify your investment, then it’s best to choose a premium, paid theme with more features and options.

WordPress comes with free themes to choose from, start with one of the options you love so much in Appearance > Themes > Add New Theme > Popular without spending much time on this for now.

You can even come back and change the theme always.

7. Install WordPress Plugins

In starting a blog and after following the steps said, you have to take note of these WordPress Plugins and Install.

8. Write and Publish your blog post

Before you want to start a blog, I am sure you already have what you are about to write on and topics you are covering.

Creating strong content is what will you readers and aid you to start making money in blogging.

Immediately you’ve decided on the first blog post you are interested in writing, you will navigate to the “Add New Post” section from your WordPress Dashboard.

Go to Posts > Add New.

On the “Add Title” bar, Click on it and you will see your new post page and type in a title.

Once you’ve written your first blog post, you’re almost ready to publish.

Take some time to double-check on the Yoast SEO suggestions and make sure your post is SEO-friendly.

Once SEO settings are put in place, choose which “Category” your new post will fall under and tick that box.

Now, your blog post is ready to be published.

9. Use free designs and photos

In creating blog posts, ensure you use free photos and designs to make your posts unique. This is used before you hit publish.
